Jay D. ‘Skee’ Mesteth, 86, passed away at Black Hills Hospice in Rapid City December 18, 2020. Jay Denver Mesteth was born to Joseph and Christina Mesteth in Manderson on March 10, 1934. Jay served 3 years in Korea and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, 2 Bronz Service Stars, Infantry National Defense Medal, UN Service Medal and completed 5 more years in the Army Reserve. He was very proud of his service to his country. Better known as Uncle Skee, he was a very kind and generous man. He did whatever he could for his family and friends and asked for nothing in return. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Joseph and Christina; brothers, Max and Floyd Mesteth; sisters, Rosie Hedy, Lula, Olive, Freda and Shirley; and his lifelong partner Dian.Survivors include sister, Opal Callendar and numerous nieces and nephews. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
