Clark Lee McCue was born eight miles northwest of Martin, SD, on September 12, 1935, to Cecil and Frances (Sigman) McCue. He died on November 29, 2021, in Martin at the age of 86.
Clark lived his entire life in Martin and was known to most as Dupe. When he was a young boy his big brothers gave him the nickname Dupe which stuck with him for life. Unknown to most of us he despised that name. Clark attended school in Martin where he played football, basketball and ran track for the Bennett County Warriors, he also played “Legion” baseball.
He married Iris Williams in 1953, and they had three children, Steve, Julianne, and Karla. During his 20’s and 30’s he drove school bus and officiated high school sports. In 1976 he married Shirley Goedde gaining four stepchildren, Mary, Doug, Sherrill, and Bill.
Farming and ranching became his way of life. He farmed with his brother Wayne under the McCue Bros. and ranched with the McQ brand. Clark loved the land and he especially enjoyed harvest time. He always planted a few rows of sweet corn alongside the field corn inviting anyone out to the farm to pick some fresh sweet corn. You could find Clark at the sale barn café or the auto parts store visiting with the boys and eating popcorn.
He leaves behind his wife Shirley of 45 years, daughters Julianne (Doug) Greenough, Lusk, Wyo., Karla (Russell) Brown, Bismarck, N.D., stepchildren Doug Goedde, Omaha, Neb. , Mary (Steven) Schroeder, Lincoln, Neb., Bill Goedde, Martin, ten grandchildren Kellie Kramer, Matt Kramer, Bismarck, Beau Greenough, Lusk, Casey Byrne, Phoenix, Ariz., Kyla Pomrenke, Wasilla, Alaska, Shannon Goedde, Omaha, Nicole Schroeder, Columbus, and Andrew Schroeder, Lincoln, along with ten great-grandchildren, Jaelynn, Marley, Caiden, Kim, Claire, Blake, Jon, Zoe, Mason, Thia, Riley and Robin as well as nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law Jackie McCue and Pat McCue.
Clark was preceded in death by his son Steve, stepdaughter Sherrill, brothers Harold, Wayne, Clyde, and sister Bonnie.
A celebration of Clark’s life will be held December 11, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the Martin American Legion, Martin SD. Honorary pallbearers are all family and friends. Inturnment will be at the Martin Community cemetery.
