Ardis Ladely, age 83, of Long Valley, South Dakota, died on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Ardis (Allard) Ladely was born May 7, 1938, in Long Valley, the daughter of Carl and Della Allard. She grew up on the ranch in Long Valley and attended Martin High School where she met Irven Ladely. She went on to attend college at Ogalala Lakota College and soon after received her Librarian Certificate from Northern State University.
Ardis was united in marriage to Irven Ladely on June 20, 1955, in Hot Springs, where they made their home near the Bob Pick Ranch. They then moved on to work on the Hewitt Ranch near Valentine, Neb. for four years prior to moving back home where she grew up on her mom and dad’s ranch in Long Valley, where they resided for twenty years. In 1979 her and Irven purchased the Steinmeyer Ranch southwest of Long Valley which still operates today under her ownership.
As well as helping out on the ranch, Ardis stayed busy volunteering her time in many different activities. In 1993 she began working at the Library in Martin where she became the Head Librarian and retired on December 2, 2005.
Survivors include one son James Ladely of West Moreland, Tenn.; two daughters Floydeen “Dena” (Bill) Buchholz of Kadoka and Kyla (Mike) Medley of Hermosa; five grandchildren: LaTasha Buchholz, Candice (Karl) Ireland, True (Robin) Buchholz, McKenzie Medley, and Garrett Medley; three great-grandchildren: Eryn Buchholz, Corralynn Buchholz, and Taytum Ireland; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Ardis was preceded in death by her husband Irven on January 7, 2011, daughter Victoria in 1969; her parents Carl and Della Allard; one sister June Rose Good; and four brothers Ernest, Gene, Carl, and Allen Allard.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, at Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the New American Legion Hall in Martin with Pastor Kathy Chesney officiating.
Interment will follow at the Martin Community Cemetery.
