Robert L. Bucholz

Robert L. Bucholz, Martin, passed away January 28, 2022, in Rochester, Minn.

Bob was born in Bennett County to Jake and Mamie (Hinzman) Bucholz July 28, 1939. He attended Hillside School and Bennett County High School. 

He and Marjory McDonnell were married July 9, 1963. Two children were born to them: Lana in 1969 and Wade in 1973. Bob served in the Army from April 1963 to April 1965. After returning he went to work for Bill Gaskins south of Martin. In 1973 he purchased the Standard Oil Bulk Plant from Harold Luck which was known as Bob’s Oil Co. The family moved to Martin and owned that until 1994 when they sold it and purchased the Grocery Store from Harold and Ione Bates. They operated it until his retirement in 2002 with the help of daughter Lana and many other employees.

Martin was Bob’s home, he was active in the community. He served on the City Council for 2 terms and as Mayor of Martin from 1981-1984, Lacreek Electric Board 1978-1981, and the Cemetery Board for many years. Bob was a member of the American Legion Post 240 and various other volunteer organizations.

His favorite past times were hanging out with his friends and family, hunting and fishing and making sure his yard was pristine.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jake and Mamie Bucholz, brothers Ray Bucholz and Earl Bucholz, and sister Norma Cummings and great granddaughter Rylan Sponseller.

He is loved and remembered by his wife Marj, daughter Lana Cano (Steve Moran), son Wade (Beth) Bucholz, grandson Kalen Luckert, granddaughter Carleigh (Cody) Sponseller, great grandchildren Mitchel Swonke, Blakeleigh Swonke and Nolyn Sponseller. And many nieces and nephews, and lots of great friends.

Memorial services will be held in the spring.
