Eileen Kamerzell

Eileen Kamerzell, age 89, departed this world on June 8, 2022, at the Bennett County Hospital. 

She was born on August 27th, 1932, on the Churn ranch, South of Merriman, Neb., to Bud and Pearl (Miller) Ladely. She attended the Suhre Country school and later Bennett County High School.

United in Marriage to Irvin Kamerzell on April 4, 1949. To this union five children were born; Roland, Katharine, Floyd, Nathelle and Russell. The family lived North of Martin, on property formerly owned by Eileen’s parents. After Irvin’s death in 1963 the family moved to town.

Eileen started working at Bates Supermarket where she worked for over thirty years. She loved to interact with people and called her customers, “her people.” She didn’t hesitate to send a customer back to get the correct sale item or keep their kids in line while they shopped.

Eileen never met an animal she didn’t want to rescue be it a cat, dog, snake or turtle. She loved to garden, was an excellent cook and loved baking cookies.

Eileen was a member of the St. Katharine’s Episcopal Church in Martin and volunteered at Community Action for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Bud and Pearl, her husband Irvin, four sisters Donna, Phillis, Norma, and Ruth, two brothers Irven and an infant James. Two sons Roland and Floyd, three grandsons Marcus, Beau and Matt Kamerzell. She was also preceded in death by her beloved dog Bella.

She is survived by her children Katharine, Nathelle (Steve) and Russell (Kate). Two daughters-in-law Judy and Susan. Her sister Kay and her brother Wayne. Seven grandchildren Richard, Kristy, Jesse, Cori, Abbie, Ally and Bailey. Several great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, June 11, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be held in the Martin Community Cemetery. A memorial has been established and donations may be sent to PO BOX 272, Martin, SD 57551. Bennett County Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
