John Daniel Conquering Bear-Janis, 55, of Martin, S.D., passed away July 12, 2022, in Rapid City.
John Daniel Conquering Bear-Janis was born on August 12, 1966, in Pine Ridge, to John Conquering Bear and Ruth Janis. John made his journey to the Spirit World on July 12, 2022, at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City.
John is survived by his wife, Frances “Frankie” James-Janis; children, Michelle S. Janis, Anthony Janis, Alisha Janis, Jonnie Lynn Janis, and Blaine Rowland; step-children, Nathaniel James, Mitzi James, Jacquelyne Hicks, and Alisa Hicks; brothers, Richard Conquering Bear, Peter Conquering Bear, Isadore Conquering Bear, Ron Conquering Bear, Alex Richards, Michael Conquering Bear, Irvin Salway, and Curtis Mosell; sisters, Hope (Randy) Conquering Bear, Connie Conquering Bear, and Devona Conquering Bear; uncles. Salway, and Gordon Standing Bear; uncles, Martin Conquering Bear, Joshua Conquering Bear, Doug Conquering Bear, Jack Conquering Bear, and Leonard Janis, Jr.; aunt, Margie Conquering Bear-Morrison; cousins, Noah Bad Wound, Martin Bad Wound, Orland Morrison, Bill Morrison, and Bonni High Bull; grandparents, Joshua Conquering Bear, Sr. and Edith Marshall-Conquering Bear, Leonard Janis, Sr. and Myrtle Two Crow-Janis.
A one night wake service started at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 18, at the LaCreek CAP Office in Martin.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 19, at the LaCreek CAP Office in Martin, with Hermus Poor Thunder officiating and Traditional Lakota services performed by Dave and Chepka Claymore.
Cremation to follow services and burial at a later date.
