Ronald Gene Haag, 71, passed away November 24, 2022, in Martin, South Dakota, surrounded by his family.
Ron was welcomed into the world by his parents, Crystal and Walter Haag, on September 7, 1951. He grew up in Martin and went to Bennett County High School where he excelled in sports. He was a football full back and middle linebacker, ran the low and high hurdles and relay, and threw shot put in track. On Sundays, Ron could be found at the local grocery store bagging groceries making about $5 a day. After high school, Ron worked for Bennett County and later drove cattle trucks for Speedway Transportation in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Ron married the love of his life, Pamela Sowards, on September 23, 2000. The coupe decided to live the farm life on their place north of Hayes, South Dakota.
Ron loved to hunt, fish, NASCAR, and work on old cars like his 1969 442 Oldsmobile. He loved football and cheered for the Colts until Manning was traded, and then became a Patriots fan. He was sassy from beginning gto end and loved to tell stories about his youth.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Pam; sister, Toni Milk; his children, Laura Fairhead, Deena Haag, Brenda (Eric) Ash, Walter (Mary) Haag, Camron Haag, Triniti (Jim) Sowards, Shawnee Sowards; 24 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Crystal.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Ron and Pam Haag account at First Dakota Bank.
The funeral services will commence at 1100hrs at the Lutheran Memorial Church, 320 E. Prospect Ave. Pierre, SD 57501 on the 5th of December, 2022. Reception to follow.
