Bennett County traveled to Pine Ridge last Friday and squared off against a much improved Pine Ridge football squad. The Thorpes came to play, putting up 38 points to just 8 for the Warriors.
Bennett County senior Tee Allen accounted for the eight points on a one yard touchdown run and the conversion run. Allen racked up 231 yards rushing for the game on 14 carries.
“We made a lot of personal mistakes and did not play disciplined football,” said coach Tucker Risse. “We also had some turnovers or mistakes that kept us always taking backwards steps. This is frustrating from a coaches perspective when we practice this stuff every week. There were times our guys were in the position they needed to be and weren’t quick enough to react. This happens, teams have good days and bad days.”
“Pine Ridge is a team we should have beat,” continued Risse. “Our offense had good execution on some of our plays that went for big yards and defensively we forced quite a few turnovers. Through the entire game we never did give up, we played through to the end. All of our players seen playing time which is a good thing.”
“All in all, we must change ourselves as athletes,” added Risse. “We have a long way to come in this football program. A decision by each of our players needs to be made this offseason. That decision is to become better athletes by getting involved with quality lifting and speed training. It is a must, bottom line. It will make a difference in every aspect. Also, taking a little time and watching college football will help the IQ of players playing the game. There are little steps everyone can take in becoming a better Warrior athlete.”
