By Tim Huether

The Bennett County Lady Warrior volleyball team entered the Region 7 volleyball playoffs as the six seed Monday night in Pine Ridge but took out three seed Little Wound in five sets, 25-18, 20-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-11.

Bennett County started the season slow but came on strong late, winning seven of their last 11 matches with the win over Little Wound. Up next for the Lady Warriors is Pine Ridge who survived a scare from seven seed St. Francis, 22-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-23.

Monday night was very entertaining as Bennett County and Little Wound went the distance in a five-set match with the Lady Warriors fired up and hustling their way to the first set 25-18 win. After trailing 3-1 to start the set, Bennett County jumped on top 6-5 on back to back kills by senior Jessica Begeman and never trailed again in the set. Other impressive kills in the set came from Tarryn Petrak and Josie May, and Lainee Link added a block for a point.

Set two was close until the very end with six ties before Little Wound pulled away late for the 25-20 win. Josie May had a pair of ace serves in the set and Jessica Begeman a pair of big kills for the Lady Warriors.

Set three also came down to the wire after Bennett County started strong, leading 11-6 on a Laska Ward power kill. Little Wound battled back to tie the set at 13 and would close out the set with a 25-21 win. The Warriors had kills from Ward, Chloe Risse, Jessica Begeman and Josie May.

Bennett County would not be denied after trailing two sets to one, taking control of set four, trailing just once at 10-9, but used solid serving and long rally play to pull out a 25-19 win.

Tarryn Petrak, Begeman, May and Ward all had big kills for Bennett County.

The fifth and final set was close early and tied at seven when the Lady Warriors stepped up their game and finished with an 8-4 run to take home the win in five sets.

Bennett County and Pine Ridge face off Thursday night in Winner with game time set for 5 p.m. MT. Winner and Red Cloud face off in the final Region match of the night. The winners of the two games move on to the Round of 16 and will be re-seeded.

Red Cloud defeated Todd County in another five set thriller, 25-18, 23-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-11. Red Cloud will play Winner Thursday.
