Chamber Golf Tournament draws good crowd, raises money for golf course

The Martin Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a two person best ball golf tournament Saturday with 29 teams competing for prize money and multiple pin prizes. The event was put on as a fundraiser with the Bennett County Golf Association the benefactors of the Chambers event.

National high school rodeo results

Our local rodeo contestants didn’t have the week they had hoped for in Gillette, Wyo. at the National High School Rodeo Finals, but they gave it their all and represented us well.

Tate Petrak earned a trip to the national finals after a 4th place finish at state in tie down roping.

As a graduate of the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Gail (Schneider) Winter has been a big fan of the Lincoln, half-marthon since she started running it a few years back.

Bakley and Gangone to play on All Star Team

There will be a men’s golf league organizational meeting Wednesday, May 18, at 6 p.m. at the Markota Acres Golf Course in Martin with golfing before the meeting.

May 25 will be men’s fun night team with a two person scramble starting at 5 p.m.

Post 240 Baseball team makes strong showing in Region 7B Tournament

After falling to Lead-Deadwood in their first game of the South Dakota American Legion Region 7B Baseball Tournament by a score of 11-1, the Post 240 boys brushed the dirt off their uniforms and set their minds on fighting back to the championship game. In grand style the Martin and Kyle combined team accomplished their goal of meeting Spearfish Post 164 in the final bracket.

Baseball team wins pair of home games

The Bennett County-Little Wound Club Baseball team racked up a couple of home weekend wins, toppling Gregory 16-0 Saturday, then sliding by Platte-Geddes 5-4 Sunday in Martin. 

In the Gregory game, Chandler Bakley pitched all five innings, allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 9 batters for the win. Bakley also swung a big bat, collecting 3 singles and an RBI for the Warriors.…

Patrick Tutsch to appear in Special Olympics World Winter Games

Special Olympics Kentucky has nominated a pair of skiers to the Special Olympics USA team for the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games, which will be held March 14-25, 2017, in Austria.

Kelly McCormick of Louisville and Patrick Tutsch of Lexington were selected to represent Kentucky as part of the USA team at the Games.
