Golf Season is Here

There will be a men’s golf league organizational meeting Wednesday, May 18, at 6 p.m. at the Markota Acres Golf Course in Martin with golfing before the meeting.

May 25 will be men’s fun night team with a two person scramble starting at 5 p.m.

The first night of men’s league will be June 1 at 5 p.m.

Baseball team wins pair of home games

The Bennett County-Little Wound Club Baseball team racked up a couple of home weekend wins, toppling Gregory 16-0 Saturday, then sliding by Platte-Geddes 5-4 Sunday in Martin. 

In the Gregory game, Chandler Bakley pitched all five innings, allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 9 batters for the win. Bakley also swung a big bat, collecting 3 singles and an RBI for the Warriors.…

Local Chess Club takes state championships

The NLF Chess Club in Batesland, SD traveled to the capitol city to compete in the 2016 South Dakota State chess tournament held on Saturday April 9. This annual tournament is played to determine the state scholastic champion in each division from primary school through high school.

The team consisted of 6 participants. Tobijah Marks and Joanna Marks in the K-5 division.

Baseball and softball signups

Signups are underway for summer youth baseball and softball. Youth from 4-19 may participate.

Money and forms are due back by Monday, April 8 with a cost of $35 per player or a discount of 3 for $100 for immediate family members. 

For baseball, there is Tee Ball for 4-6 year old boys and girls; Coach Pitch for boys 7-9; Cal Ripken for boys 10-12; Legion for boys 13-19.
