Tammy Lewis, age 65, of Wall, South Dakota, died on Friday, March 15, 2024 at the South Dakota Human Services Center in Yankton. Tammy Ellen Lewis left her earthly struggles with mental illness, diabetes, and cancer behind on the morning of Friday, March 15, 2024, at the South Dakota Human Services Center in Yankton. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time of her passing. Tammy was born to Dale Lewis and Nancy Hauk in Ipswich, on September 28, 1958. She was preceded in death by her father Dale Lewis and stepfather Max Hauk. She is survived by her mother Nancy Hauk, daughter Summer Jakopak, son in law Mark Jakopak, two grandchildren Autumn Jakopak and Bohdan Jakopak, step-sister and dear friend Darla Mullanix and family, stepsister Karen Moore and family, and stepbrother Philip Hauk and family.

Tammy lived most of her young and adult life in Wall, SD. She spent many years working for the Wall Drug Store. During her younger years she rarely was seen without a book in her hand or in her pocket. When her grandchildren were born she moved in with Summer and Mark and lived with them in Quinn, Freeman, and Rapid City. During those years she spent her days watching her grandchildren, enjoying sports on TV, and going to movies and restaurants. Often, she went to Gordon, NE and spent time helping Darla in her restaurant, going to the beauty parlor, and shopping at the second hand store. As her health declined and she was no longer able to live at home, she lived in the Martin Nursing Home and then in the Spearfish Canyon Healthcare nursing home.

Through all of her struggles with mental illness, diabetes, and cancer, she rarely complained, and often looked for small ways she was able to be of help to her family. Her stubbornness and tenacity will be missed as well as her quiet compassion and her tough game of Hand and Foot.

Visitation was held 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 22, at Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall.

Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at the United Methodist Church in Wall with Pastor Justin Trent officiating.
