Mikena “JJ” Sterkel ties 7th in the Nation

A long, hot week at the National Junior High Rodeo has concluded in Perry, Ga. Not only was the weather steaming, but so were Mikena “JJ” Sterkel’s hands as she tied her way to 7th in the Nation in girls goat tying.

O’Neills make mark at State Track Meet

Bennett County seventh grader Reagan O’Neill represented Bennett County well at the South Dakota State Track and Field Meet last week finishing seventh in the 100 meters and seventh in the long jump. She competed in four events at the meet.

Local hands qualify for National Junior High Rodeo

Following the State Junior High Rodeo held in Rapid City on May 19, a few local cowboys and cowgirls are packing up to head to Perry, Georgia to compete in the National Junior High Finals Rodeo June 18-24.

To qualify for the National Junior High Rodeo you must place top four in the event based off points accumulated from the two regional rodeos and state.

Lady Warriors claim Region 7A Track and Field team title

For the first time in many years, the Bennett County girls won the Region 7A Track and Field Meet scoring 144 points to runner-up Todd County with 121. It will be a historic win as this will be the last year there will be a Region meet as the South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA) is going to a top 24 format from this point on.

Begeman, May, and Peil qualify for State B Golf

The 6 B Regional golf tournament was held at the Hart Ranch on Monday, May 22. Bennett County’s Megan Begeman, Sophia May, and Aubrey Peil all qualified for the state meet. 

Golfers that placed in the top 15 advanced to the State Tournament held June 5-6 in Watertown.

Sophia May placed 10th golfing a +35 for a 107.

Aubrey Peil came in 14th with a +49 for a 121.
