Lacreek Electric Annual Meeting to be held April 25

Lacreek Electric Association will hold their 65th Annual Meeting on Thursday, April 25. The evening will consist of dinner being served at the New American Legion Dining Room from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. 

Member registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Old American Legion Gym and continue until 7 p.m., when the business meeting will begin.

Oglala Sioux Tribe exploring possibility of horse slaughter facility in Bennett County

According to several sources, the Oglala Sioux Tribe is exploring the possibility of putting in a horse slaughter facility in Bennett County, which would make it one of a few in the nation.

Tribal council member Craig Dillon from the LaCreek District confirmed that they are indeed looking at it but said they have a long way to go, but have also come a long way on the project.

Carli Winter wins second straight gold medal

Several Bennett County students took part in the Chadron Scholastic Contest April 5. 

Bennett County Sophomore Carli Winter brought home a first place for the second straight year with the most points in Plane Geometry. She tied Ryan Birner of Sidney High School for the honor. Winter also finished fifth in Algebra II.

Sophomore Brady Hicks finished sixth in Plane Geometry.

High School Library Aide Carol Yohner was honored by the Bennett County Library.  Since April is National Library Month, the library took this time to honor Carol for 10 years of service as high school library aide.

"Light of Hope" Juvenile Forum to be held April 23

A “Light of Hope” Juvenile Justice Town Hall Forum will be held at the Martin Grade School Activity Center on Tuesday, April 23, beginning at 5 p.m.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Spring snowstorm is winding down a bit, but a mess of huge piles of snow remain in the City of Martin. City crews are bustling to get as many streets cleared as possible, but because the snow kept coming since Monday evening and the winds kicked up all day Tuesday, it was an uphill battle.
